About Us
About Leys Cricket Club
Leys Cricket Club was established to create an inclusive, community-driven cricket club serving Blackbird Leys, Greater Leys, and the wider Oxford area.
We are a club built on the belief that cricket should be accessible to everyone. Whether you are a complete beginner or have played before, we provide opportunities for children, young people, adults, women, seniors, and individuals with disabilities to take part, enjoy the game, and feel part of a team.
Our focus is on more than just cricket. We aim to build confidence, encourage teamwork, and create a positive environment where people of all backgrounds can come together. Blackbird Leys is one of Oxford’s most diverse and vibrant communities, and our club reflects that diversity by welcoming players and families from all walks of life.
As a new club, we are committed to building strong foundations. This includes developing local talent, supporting young players through structured pathways, and offering inclusive sessions such as women’s cricket, over 50s cricket, and disability cricket. We want every individual to feel valued and to have a place within the club.
Above all, Leys Cricket Club is about community. It’s about bringing people together, creating opportunities, and building something that the whole area can be proud of.
🌍 Why “Leys”?
The name Leys Cricket Club comes from the heart of the community we represent — Blackbird Leys and Greater Leys in Oxford.
“Leys” isn’t just a place name. It reflects a proud, diverse, and resilient community with a strong identity. By choosing this name, the club is rooted directly in the area it serves, making it clear that this is a club for local people, built by the community, for the community.
The Leys has long been home to families from many different backgrounds, cultures, and experiences. Leys Cricket Club celebrates that diversity by creating a space where everyone feels welcome, valued, and included.
The name also represents growth and open space — a place where people can come together, develop their skills, and build something positive. Just like the community itself, the club is about opportunity, unity, and progress.
Above all, “Leys” keeps us grounded. It reminds us who we are here for — the people, families, and future generations of this community.
Safeguarding & Welfare
Leys Cricket Club is committed to ensuring cricket is played in a safe, positive, and inclusive environment. We follow ECB guidance for safeguarding children and young people.
The welfare of our players, especially young people and vulnerable individuals, is our top priority. Parents, guardians, and members are encouraged to raise any concerns in confidence, knowing they will be taken seriously and handled appropriately.
